Kevin Stearns Anderson

Kevin Stearns Anderson has been passionate about trees ever since spending summers building forest trails with High School friends in Cape Breton. After taking a few forestry courses at UNB he embarked on a path of studies and work in geology, and a career as an Environmental Health Inspector in Norrköping in Sweden. His major pastimes there, pruning fruit trees and rock climbing, served him well upon his return to the Maritimes in 2001, where he has worked as a professional arborist, becoming ISA Certified in 2002.

In his words, “Helping customers create the outdoor spaces they dream of is the most satisfying work I’ve ever done. It’s hard work, but I get to do what I really enjoy doing, with the added pleasure of working closely with customers, other professionals and a variety of employees over the years.”

Kevin lives in Sackville with his wife Vallie and a yard full of very unusual trees.

Rory Fraser

Prince Edward Islander Rory Fraser walked onto our job-site for a bit of a visit in 2014 and hasn’t left since. At the time he’d been working as an elementary school librarian at ABA in Oman following a Master’s of Library Science at The University Of Hong Kong and other adventures in Asia.

Since joining us at Woodpecker Tree Care, Rory has embraced the world of arboriculture, becoming a first-rate climber and earning his “ISA Certified Tree Worker – Climber Specialist” credential in 2016. Rory is active as a volunteer in the ISA Atlantic Chapter Tree Climbing Competition, and the voice you’re most likely to encounter when you give us a call.

Rory lives in Sackville with his wife Kate, who appreciates his transformation from pudgy librarian to treetop athlete. Rory and Kate have two lovely children, Isla and Rowan, who think that climbing trees for a living is an ordinary thing for a dad to do.

Norm Hunter

A true lover of life, Norm Hunter has probably forgotten more about gardening than most people will ever know. He is our resident expert at garden design, installation and maintenance. Norm’s work capitalizes on working with what is already present in the landscape, the establishment of low-maintenence gardens, and creating spaces for outdoor relaxation. He’s an unrepentant sheet-mulching enthusiast, having intoduced this labour-saving technique to many a harried gardener.

Norm has worked with a diversity of green projects and workplaces, from organic food production, to Cornhill Nurseries, to forest ginseng cultivation, to agricultural therapy at Open Sky Cooperative.

In addition to his green pursuits, Norm is a passionate paddler and foot reflexology practitioner.

Beck Aurell

Back for her sixth year with Woodpecker Tree Care is Beck Aurell, an accomplished arborist with a breadth of experience, including Treemasters in Stockholm, All Green Tree Care in Halifax and Asplundh in Nova Scotia.. She was the first woman to ever enter the Atlantic Regional Tree Climbing Competition (2016) and represented the Atlantic Provinces at the 2017 International Tree Climbing Competition in Washington DC. Beck helps us out with occasional larger jobs and we’re looking forward to her being back for a major full-time stint this Fall.
