1. SPRING HOURS

Spring feels distant looking out the window, but the Woodpeckers are dreaming of daffodils, forsythia, and early spring pruning. We are officially open for business, Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm, and are happily accepting requests for new work by phone or email.

Rory and Kevin are steering the team in the office, while Dave, Greg, John, and Meg make up our field crew this spring. Get in touch and our friendly neighborhood Rory will be sure to help you as soon as possible.

2. EARLY BIRD SPECIAL

Have a tree-related project you would like Woodpecker Tree Care to tackle? Get in touch with us before the end of April to take advantage of our early bird special, where we provide you a quote with last year’s rates.

This time of year is perfect for pruning projects. Do you have fruit trees growing out of control? A tree encroaching on your home or space? A young tree that needs guidance? Give us a shout and we will send our pruning experts to your door.

If you have any questions about or would like to take advantage of the early bird special, please get in touch and we will gladly answer them. Our rates adjust annually on April 30th.

3. TREE PLANTING SCHEDULE

Typically we do two planting campaigns per season, but this year we have decided to amalgamate our spring and fall planting and do one planting campaign in September/October.

This fall, we will team up with Charlie the Tree Guy and Cornhill Nursery to bring high-quality saplings straight to your doorstep this fall. If you would like us to get the tree in the ground for you, let us know and we would be happy to accommodate.

Doing any planting of your own this spring? Check out our planting page for dos and don’ts.

4. MULCH, MULCH, AND MORE MULCH

Gardening season is upon us, and we have wood chips flowing in by the cubic yard. Want chips for the garden? Footpaths? Fun? Get ahead of the warm season rush and call us, we would be happy to deliver them to you while in your area.

Add your name to our mulch list, and we will give you a call when we have a truckload with your name on it. Requests for specific blends/types of mulch may result in a longer wait time, but we are happy to oblige if possible.

5. NEWSLETTER SIGN UP

We want to extend a sincere thank you to all who subscribe to our seasonal newsletter. It means a lot to us that folks keep up with Woodpecker Tree Care, and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we receive from our subscribers.

We humbly encourage, if you have enjoyed our newsletter, recommending our newsletter to family and friends who may enjoy its content. We are entering all new subscribers into a raffle for Peace By Chocolate goodies and other fun prizes.

Thank you!

6. ELM COORDINATOR UPDATE

Each year, Woodpecker Tree Care injects valuable elm trees with DutchTrig to prevent Dutch Elm Disease. Regretfully, we have decided to scale back our use of our DutchTrig this year and in the future. Meg and Kevin are currently working to determine the future of the elm inoculation program, and communicate our plan with pre-existing DutchTrig clients.

If you had an elm inoculated in 2023, Meg will contact you within the next number of weeks to see if you would like to protect your tree again this year and outline your options for the future. We have a limited supply of DutchTrig and used every drop of it last year, so don’t hesitate to reach out to Meg with any questions.

Stay tuned to hear about local elms in need, our list of sponsors, and updates about Dutch Elm Disease preventative treatment technology.

7. WE’RE HIRING!

Need some extra hours? We are looking for someone to take a few hours out of their Saturday mornings to give our beloved trucks and equipment shiny and sawdust-free.

Two of our staff members, Greg and Meg, started their careers at Woodpecker Tree Care by washing vehicles! If you have skills or interests that you would like to bring to the team outside of vehicle upkeep, we would love to discuss those opportunities with you.

If you are interested, introduce yourself by email and we will get in touch.

8. SENIOR’S COLLEGE PRUNING COURSE

Woodpecker Tree Care’s founder and owner, Kevin, is scheduled to host a basic pruning workshop in conjunction with the Tantramar Seniors College this May! A small group of six to eight participants will learn pruning skills that they can use in their own yards. Kevin has over 20 years of experience pruning trees and shrubs of all sizes, and is excited to share his expertise and enthusiasm.

The workshop is on the schedule for May 10th, 2024 (rain day May 17th), when the weather is more agreeable and flowers bloom.

Watch for the signup link on the Tantramar Seniors College website, or call (506)-364-2780 for more information. Please note that while Kevin is thrilled to host the workshop, all questions should be directed to the Seniors College.
